CVE-2026-45456 is a critical type confusion vulnerability in Microsoft Office affecting Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word. The flaw is described as access of a resource using an incompatible type in the Office document parsing and Word rendering pipeline. Outlook Classic uses the Word rendering engine to process and display email content, including content shown in the Preview Pane, making that rendering path a viable trigger surface. A specially crafted email body, Office-rendered content, or malicious document can cause the Word engine to interpret attacker-controlled data as an object or pointer of an incompatible type, resulting in memory corruption and potential arbitrary code execution in the context of the victim user.
