CVE-2026-45536 is an improper resource shutdown flaw in Netty's native Unix domain socket transport affecting the epoll and kqueue implementations. In vulnerable versions prior to 4.1.135.Final and 4.2.15.Final, the native function netty_unix_socket_recvFd allocates control-message space sized for a single received file descriptor, but a peer can send an SCM_RIGHTS ancillary message carrying two file descriptors whose control-message length still fits exactly in the allocated buffer on 64-bit Linux. The kernel installs both descriptors into the receiving process, but Netty subsequently validates the ancillary message length as if exactly one descriptor were expected. Because that check fails, the code path that reads and closes or hands off the descriptor is skipped. The receive loop then exits normally on a non-blocking read boundary, leaving the installed descriptors open. Each crafted message can therefore leak two file descriptors in the target process. The issue is reachable through DomainSocketChannel when the application explicitly enables DomainSocketReadMode.FILE_DESCRIPTORS, which is not the default.
