CVE-2026-45695 is a critical unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability in Kopia affecting versions prior to 0.23.0. When the Kopia HTTP server is started with the --without-password option, the /api/v1/repo/exists endpoint accepts unauthenticated requests and forwards attacker-controlled SFTP repository configuration into storage initialization. In the vulnerable code path, attacker-supplied settings can enable use of an external SSH client and pass arbitrary SSH options through sshArguments to the spawned ssh process. By supplying an OpenSSH ProxyCommand option, an attacker can cause command execution through the local shell before any SSH connection is established. The flaw results from exposing a critical function without authentication and from unsafe propagation of untrusted input into OS command arguments used by OpenSSH.
