CVE-2026-46195 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel SMB/CIFS client caused by improper validation of a server-supplied DACL offset within a returned security descriptor. In the affected code paths, parse_sec_desc(), build_sec_desc(), and the chown-related path in id_mode_to_cifs_acl() add the untrusted dacloffset value to the base security descriptor pointer before first proving that the resulting DACL header lies within the descriptor bounds. On 32-bit builds, a malicious SMB server can supply a dacloffset value near U32_MAX, causing pointer arithmetic to wrap and produce an invalid DACL pointer that may still satisfy later pointer-based bounds checks. Subsequent chmod or chown ACL rewrite operations can then dereference DACL fields from the wrapped pointer. The flaw affects the SMB client side and is triggered by malformed security descriptor data returned by a malicious server.
