CVE-2026-46582 is a low-severity cache-poisoning vulnerability in NLnet Labs Unbound versions 1.6.0 through 1.25.1. A replayed DNSSEC-signed wildcard RRset can temporarily be marked secure based on RRSIG validation before wildcard proof validation using NSEC records completes. A race between the resolving thread updating that RRset and a thread serving expired data can cause the prematurely secure wildcard data to be returned and retained as the value of a sibling record. Although subsequent validation identifies the crafted CNAME-wrapped response as bogus, the poisoned sibling RRset may remain cached with secure status and point to the wildcard-derived data.
