CVE-2026-47162 is an arbitrary code execution vulnerability in Vim's netrw plugin prior to version 9.2.0495. The flaw is in s:NetrwBookHistSave() in runtime/pack/dist/opt/netrw/autoload/netrw.vim, which serializes browsed directory paths into the netrw history file. A directory name obtained from the filesystem is inserted into a single-quoted Vimscript string literal without escaping embedded single quotes. An attacker can create a crafted directory name that breaks out of the intended string context and injects attacker-controlled Vimscript into the history file. When Vim later sources that history file, the injected script executes. Because Vimscript can invoke shell commands through mechanisms such as system() and shell escapes, successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary command execution in the context of the user running Vim. The issue is fixed in Vim 9.2.0495.
