CVE-2026-47289 is a critical heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in Microsoft Remote Desktop Client. The flaw is triggered when the client processes a specially crafted Remote Desktop Protocol certificate presented by a malicious or attacker-controlled RDP server during connection establishment. Successful exploitation can corrupt heap memory and lead to arbitrary code execution on the victim system in the context of the Remote Desktop client process. Microsoft assessed the issue as remotely exploitable over the network with low attack complexity, requiring no prior privileges but requiring user interaction to initiate a connection to the malicious server.
