CVE-2026-47691 is a DNS cache poisoning vulnerability in Netty's DNS resolver module affecting versions prior to 4.1.135.Final and 4.2.15.Final. The flaw is caused by insufficient bailiwick validation when processing NS records in DNS responses. In the vulnerable logic, io.netty.resolver.dns.DnsResolveContext.AuthoritativeNameServerList#add accepts NS records from the AUTHORITY section if the record name is merely a suffix of the original query name, rather than enforcing proper authority boundaries. The resolver then processes related A records from the ADDITIONAL section in handleWithAdditional and caches them in the authoritative DNS server cache under the parent domain key. This allows a name server that is authoritative only for a subdomain to inject authoritative server information for a parent domain, violating standard DNS bailiwick rules. Once cached, the poisoned authoritative server data can influence subsequent resolutions for names under the affected parent domain.
