CVE-2026-47876 is a critical out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the VMXNET3 virtual network adapter implementation used by VMware ESX/ESXi. The flaw is a memory corruption issue in the hypervisor-side handling of VMXNET3 traffic or device interaction, allowing writes beyond intended memory bounds. A malicious actor who has already obtained local administrative privileges inside a guest virtual machine configured with the VMXNET3 virtual network adapter can exploit the vulnerability to execute code on the underlying ESX host. Because the flaw crosses the guest-to-host isolation boundary, it is classified as a virtual machine escape. Systems using virtual network adapters other than VMXNET3 are not affected by this specific issue.
