CVE-2026-48021 is a man-in-the-middle vulnerability in epa4all affecting versions prior to 2026-05-20. An attacker able to intercept the TLS connection between epa4all and the ePA backend can complete the VAU handshake using attacker-controlled keys and recover the session encryption keys for the protected inner channel. This breaks the intended authentication and confidentiality guarantees of the VAU session, allowing the attacker to transparently position themselves between the client and backend. As a result, inner HTTP traffic carried within the session can be observed and altered, including sensitive healthcare-related transactions and authorization material.
