Improper Input Validation in Adobe ColdFusion Leading to Code Execution and Privilege Escalation

IdentifiersCVE-2026-48315CWE-20

CVE-2026-48315 is a critical improper input validation vulnerability in Adobe ColdFusion. It affects ColdFusion 2025 Update 9 and earlier and ColdFusion 2023 Update 20 and earlier. According to the provided advisory content, successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user. The issue is also described as enabling malicious script injection into a web page, which could lead to elevated access or control over the victim's account or session. ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user. The provided content also indicates the flaw can be used to inject malicious scripts into a web page, potentially resulting in elevated access, account or session compromise, and privilege escalation. CVSS context in the supplied material indicates high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact with changed scope.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate patching is not possible, apply Adobe’s published ColdFusion hardening guidance from the security configuration and Lockdown Guide, update to the latest supported JDK/JRE LTS release, use the latest MySQL Java connector, and for JEE installations configure the documented JVM serial filter flag: -Djdk.serialFilter=!org.mozilla.;!com.sun.syndication.;!org.apache.commons.beanutils.;!org.jgroups.;!com.sun.rowset.;!com.mysql.cj.jdbc.interceptors.;!org.apache.commons.collections.**. These measures are general Adobe-recommended mitigations from the associated advisory and are not a substitute for patching.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Adobe ColdFusion 2025 to Update 10 or later and Adobe ColdFusion 2023 to Update 21 or later. The supplied Adobe advisory identifies these releases as containing the fix for CVE-2026-48315.
