CVE-2026-48848 affects Roundcube Webmail 1.6.x before 1.6.16 and 1.7.x before 1.7.1. The vulnerability is caused by insufficient HTML sanitization in Roundcube's core HTML sanitizer when processing SVG content. Specifically, a crafted SVG document containing an <animate> element with the attributeName attribute can bypass intended sanitization controls and permit Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) injection. The issue is described as a CSS injection bypass in the core HTML sanitizer, allowing attacker-controlled style content to be introduced into rendered webmail content.
