CVE-2026-49420 is a stack-based buffer overflow in FreeBSD’s libalias network address translation library, specifically in RTSP handling used during NAT processing. The vulnerable RTSP helper rewrites outgoing packets into a fixed-length stack buffer without verifying that the rewritten data fits within the buffer or within the original packet bounds. The issue is reachable when attacker-controlled RTSP traffic is processed through libalias by components such as ipfw NAT or natd, including RTSP-aware helper functionality associated with alias_smedia.ko and libalias_smedia.so. Successful exploitation can crash the affected system or process and may permit remote code execution; in exposed configurations this execution may occur in kernel context or in the natd process, which typically runs as root.
