CVE-2026-49759 is a stack-based buffer overflow in Erlang/OTP's erts inet_drv component, specifically in the sctp_parse_error_chunk function in erts/emulator/drivers/common/inet_drv.c. The vulnerable code parses SCTP ERROR chunks and writes SCTP cause codes into a fixed-size stack-allocated ErlDrvTermData spec[] array without proper bounds checking. An attacker that has established an SCTP association to a listening Erlang SCTP port can send a single crafted SCTP ERROR chunk containing enough cause codes to overflow the stack buffer and crash the BEAM VM. The overwrite is constrained to 16-bit values interleaved with a fixed tag, which limits control over execution flow and makes the issue primarily a denial-of-service vulnerability rather than a practical route to controlled code execution. The same malformed packet may also cause limited disclosure of fragments of Erlang VM memory in the error packet delivered to the Erlang process.
