Rejected SQLite jsonRemoveFunc use-after-free claim
CVE-2026-51296 is a rejected CVE record withdrawn by its CNA after further investigation determined that it did not represent a security issue. The original allegation described a use-after-free in SQLite's jsonRemoveFunc affecting SQLite 3.41.0. Verification found that the cited source-code line numbers exceeded the length of the relevant source file, and the supplied proof of concept failed during JSON parsing without affecting memory state. The separately demonstrated SQLite Session extension heap-buffer overflow is a distinct issue and must not be associated with this identifier.
What it means and what to do now: patch path, interim mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.
What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.
No verified security impact is established. Claims of service crashes or heap-memory disclosure were not substantiated, and the CVE record was withdrawn as not representing a security issue.
If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.
No vulnerability-specific mitigation is necessary because the reported issue was determined not to be a security vulnerability.
Patch, then assume compromise.
