CVE-2026-53783 is a time-of-check to time-of-use race in rsync versions before 3.5.0 affecting the rrsync restricted-shell wrapper. rrsync validates paths intended to confine an authenticated client to a permitted directory subtree, including resolution with realpath(), but subsequently performs transfer processing using the checked path. A client able to replace a validated path component with a symbolic link during this interval can redirect processing outside the enforced subtree. The wrapper also permits unsafe options, including link-copying, device-preservation, and log-file options, which can be leveraged in conjunction with the restriction bypass to access files beyond the authorized directory tree.
