CVE-2026-53791 is an IP-address spoofing vulnerability in rsync daemon versions before 3.5.0. When the daemon is configured with proxy protocol = true, it accepts attacker-supplied source-address information from a PROXY protocol header without adequately limiting which peers may provide that header. An unauthenticated remote client can forge the claimed source IP address and cause rsync to evaluate IP-based access controls, including hosts allow/deny rules, against the forged address rather than the actual connecting address.
