CVE-2026-5405 is a heap-based buffer overflow in Wireshark's Remote Desktop Protocol dissector, specifically tracked as an RDP ZGFX parsing flaw. The vulnerability affects Wireshark 4.6.0 through 4.6.4 and 4.4.0 through 4.4.14. When Wireshark processes a malformed RDP packet or a crafted packet capture containing malicious RDP traffic, the dissector can write beyond heap-allocated memory, causing a crash and creating a potential path to arbitrary code execution. The issue is tracked in Wireshark issue 21105 and was addressed in the 4.6.5 and 4.4.15 releases.
