CVE-2026-55950 is a time-of-check time-of-use race condition in the Erlang/OTP ssl application, specifically the DTLS packet demultiplexing logic in the dtls_packet_demux module. A DTLS listener uses a single shared dtls_packet_demux gen_server process to route incoming UDP datagrams to the appropriate DTLS connection handler. When a client rapidly reconnects from the same source address and port and sends multiple valid DTLS ClientHello messages in quick succession, a race in the module’s internal gb_trees state handling can trigger a {key_exists, {old, Client}} failure and crash the shared demultiplexing process. Because that process is shared across all DTLS associations on the listener, exploitation of the flaw terminates every active DTLS session on that listener rather than only the attacker’s connection. The issue is pre-authentication and affects Erlang/OTP releases from OTP 25.3 before 29.0.3, 28.x before 28.5.0.3, and 27.x before 27.3.4.14, corresponding to ssl versions from 10.9 before 11.7.3, 11.6.x before 11.6.0.3, and 11.2.x before 11.2.12.10.
