CVE-2026-56711 is an integer-overflow vulnerability in VLC media player picture-buffer allocation. The AllocatePicture routine calculates decoded-image plane sizes by multiplying signed 32-bit pitch and line-count values. A multiplication can wrap before its result is accumulated in a size_t total, causing allocation of a buffer substantially smaller than required. Existing validation evaluates either a widened calculation that does not constrain the 32-bit product or the already-wrapped allocation value. A PNG with oversized IHDR width and height values can reach the affected path; subsequent scanline decoding uses the original dimensions and writes beyond the undersized heap allocation. VLC versions 3.0.0 through 3.0.23 are reported as affected.
