CVE-2026-57455 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in Vim affecting versions prior to 9.2.0698. The flaw is in the single-byte branch of spell_soundfold_sofo() in src/spell.c, which translates a word through a spell file SOFO sound-folding byte map into a caller-supplied result buffer. The copy loop increments the output index without enforcing an upper bound and stops only when the input string terminates. As a result, when processing a word longer than MAXWLEN while a SOFO-based spell language is active, the function writes past the end of the fixed-size stack buffer supplied by the caller. This causes a stack-based out-of-bounds write, corrupts the call frame, and crashes the editor.
