CVE-2026-57898 is an unauthenticated arbitrary file write vulnerability in Eclipse BaSyx Java Server SDK versions 2.0.0-milestone-05 through 2.0.0-milestone-12 when deployed with the MongoDB backend. The flaw is in the AAS thumbnail handling path, where a client-controlled fileName parameter is accepted during thumbnail upload and later reused during retrieval. In the MongoDB-backed file repository, the supplied filename is treated as an opaque GridFS key and is subsequently used as a local filesystem path without proper normalization or restriction. By supplying an absolute path or traversal-style filename, an attacker can upload arbitrary thumbnail content and then trigger retrieval so that the server writes attacker-controlled bytes to an attacker-chosen filesystem location. The issue does not affect the default InMemory backend in this specific code path because it constrains file paths to a temporary directory.
