A race condition in Xen grant-table version switching affects the transition from grant table version 1 to version 2. The flaw arises because code paths handling grant tables may drop the grant table lock and later re-acquire it while incorrectly assuming that grant-table properties remain unchanged during the unlocked interval. During a v1 to v2 transition, the number of valid grant references decreases because version 2 uses a larger shared entry structure while the shared table size remains fixed. If code resumes operation based on stale assumptions after the lock is re-acquired, Xen can process inconsistent grant-table state. This vulnerability affects Xen versions from 4.0 onward in configurations where grant table support is present and grant table version 2 interfaces are available to guests.
