CVE-2026-63795 is a memory-lifetime flaw in the Linux kernel 9p filesystem client, specifically in the error handling of p9_client_walk(). When p9_client_walk() is invoked with clone set to false, the local fid aliases oldfid rather than representing a distinct object. If a subsequent walk operation fails after the request has already been sent, the function's clunk_fid error path unconditionally calls p9_fid_put(fid). Because fid may alias oldfid in this case, the code incorrectly drops a reference to oldfid even though ownership remains with the caller. If that reference drop reaches the final reference, oldfid can be clunked and freed while the caller still treats it as valid. Subsequent use or release of oldfid can then trigger a use-after-free or refcount underflow. The issue is reachable in scenarios where a multi-component walk is split across multiple p9_client_walk() calls and a later non-cloning walk fails.
