A race condition in Linux kernel KVM handling of AMD SEV page state change processing allowed guest-controlled values in the guest-accessible Page State Change buffer to be re-read without single-copy semantics. The vulnerable code read entries and indices from the PSC buffer in a way that permitted a malicious or misbehaving guest to modify those values between validation and later use, creating a time-of-check/time-of-use condition. The issue was resolved by using READ_ONCE() when consuming entries and indices from the PSC buffer so that KVM does not observe inconsistent guest-modified values during processing. Available context indicates this can let an SEV-SNP guest widen an array index after a bounds check, leading to out-of-bounds access in host-side KVM processing.
