CVE-2026-64187 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in the Linux kernel XFS filesystem recovery logic. The flaw occurs during log recovery when processing a crafted committed transaction whose first operation is only a bare transaction header and which ultimately contains no data regions. In this state, the recovery parser can create a recovery item and place it on the transaction item queue while leaving the item with a zero region count and a NULL region buffer. Later, xlog_recover_reorder_trans() invokes ITEM_TYPE() on that item and dereferences the first region buffer entry, resulting in a NULL pointer dereference. The issue affects recovery of malformed or attacker-crafted XFS logs during mount or filesystem recovery, not normal runtime transaction commit generation, because the normal commit path does not emit such transactions.
