CVE-2026-6443 tracks an intentionally injected backdoor in version 1.4.6 of the Accordion and Accordion Slider plugin for WordPress, part of the Essential Plugin portfolio. According to the provided content, the malicious code was introduced after the plugin business was acquired by a threat actor. The backdoor was implemented in a module named wpos-analytics and exposed through an unauthenticated WordPress REST API endpoint configured with permission_callback set to __return_true. The execution chain contacted analytics.essentialplugin.com via file_get_contents(), passed the response directly to @unserialize(), and then invoked an attacker-controlled function through @$clean($this->version_cache, $this->changelog). This provided a remote, attacker-controlled code path via deserialization and arbitrary function execution. When activated, the malware fetched a disguised payload named wp-comments-posts.php and appended approximately 6 KB of obfuscated PHP to wp-config.php for persistence. The malicious functionality was also used to inject hidden SEO spam and redirects, reportedly targeting Googlebot selectively.
