The flaw occurs in applications using the App Router, built with Turbopack, and configured with exactly one locale entry in config.i18n.locales. Under these conditions, crafted requests can bypass middleware- or proxy-based authentication and authorization checks. The issue is described as affecting middleware handling in this specific routing and internationalization configuration, including deployments using legacy middleware.ts patterns, allowing requests to reach protected application functionality without the expected middleware enforcement. The vulnerability was fixed in Next.js 16.2.11.
