CVE-2026-66486 is an improper encoding or escaping of output vulnerability in GNU cpio affecting archive member listing functionality in versions through 2.15. When archive contents are listed with cpio -it, member names are written directly to output without quoting or escaping. Because the displayed name is archive-controlled, a crafted cpio archive can include member names containing embedded newline characters or ANSI escape sequences. This can cause forged listing entries to appear in the output or inject terminal control sequences when the listing is viewed.
