CVE-2026-6665 is a stack-based buffer overflow in PgBouncer’s SCRAM authentication implementation affecting versions before 1.25.2. The flaw occurs while constructing the SCRAM client-final-message: the code does not correctly validate the return value of strlcat() when concatenating data into a stack-allocated buffer. Because the backend-supplied nonce is incorporated into this message, a malicious PostgreSQL backend can send an excessively long nonce in the SCRAM exchange and cause PgBouncer to overflow the stack buffer. This results in memory corruption during backend authentication and may lead to process termination or, in some environments, possible control-flow hijacking.
