CVE-2026-67217 is a logic flaw in cJSON through 1.7.19 in the RFC 6902 JSON Patch handling implemented by apply_patch() in cJSON_Utils.c. Patch operations are applied non-atomically. Specifically, for a replace operation that omits the required value member, or a move operation whose destination path cannot be resolved, the implementation detaches and deletes the existing target member before the operation has been fully validated. As a result, cJSONUtils_ApplyPatches() and cJSONUtils_ApplyPatchesCaseSensitive() can return a failure status after the target JSON document has already been modified. This breaks expected all-or-nothing patch semantics and can cause silent mutation or deletion of data even when callers believe an invalid patch was rejected without side effects.
