CVE-2026-70455 is an uncontrolled resource-allocation denial-of-service vulnerability in rsync versions 3.4.2 through 3.4.4. The rsync daemon's refusal mechanism matches long option names but does not equivalently match the short --zt alias of the --compress-threads option. A remote sender can therefore bypass a configured refusal of the long option and submit a large compression-thread count. The receiving rsync process creates an unbounded number of Zstandard worker threads, exhausting available process/thread and memory resources. rsync 3.5.0 fixes the issue.
