CVE-2026-70458 is an out-of-bounds write in rsync versions 3.0.0 through 3.4.4. During HLINK_BUMP processing, a file entry marked with FLAG_HLINKED can be handled while hard-link preservation is inactive. The resulting file_struct layout lacks the F_SUM field expected by that processing path, causing access beyond the allocated structure and corruption of adjacent heap or stack memory.
