CVE-2026-71319 is a critical remote code execution vulnerability in Nuxt DevTools affecting versions prior to 3.3.1. In development mode, the nuxt:devtools:rpc plugin exposes a bidirectional RPC channel over the Vite HMR WebSocket. On affected versions, this channel does not require authentication and performs no token validation, handshake enforcement, or origin check before allowing RPC method invocation. Several mutating methods, including updateOptions(), clearOptions(), and openInEditor(), do not enforce the ensureDevAuthToken protection used elsewhere. The flaw becomes directly exploitable because openInEditor() reads the persisted behavior.openInEditor setting and passes it to the launch-editor package, which spawns it as a child process. An attacker who can reach the HMR WebSocket can abuse updateOptions() to set behavior.openInEditor to an arbitrary command and then invoke openInEditor() with an existing file argument, resulting in arbitrary program execution on the developer host. The issue is limited to development environments and is fixed in Nuxt DevTools 3.3.1.
