CVE-2026-73055 is an improper output neutralization vulnerability in Shescape affecting versions before 2.1.15 and 3.0.0 before 3.0.2. On Unix systems where the shell is explicitly configured to "sh" or true and /bin/sh resolves to BusyBox, Shescape does not correctly escape tilde (~) characters when its escape or escapeAll APIs are used with untrusted input in an assignment prefixed to a command. In this execution pattern, an attacker can supply a tilde-based payload that is interpreted by the shell rather than safely neutralized, causing unintended expansion in the assignment context. This can disclose the executing user's home directory location and, depending on how the assignment value is later consumed by the command, can influence the filesystem location on which the command operates.
