CVE-2026-73324 is an improper null-termination and out-of-bounds read vulnerability in VLC Media Player's optional RTSP access module, affecting versions 3.0.0 through 3.0.23. RtspReadLine copies an RTSP response line into a fixed-size buffer using strncpy with the complete buffer length. A line that fills the buffer is not guaranteed to receive a terminating NUL byte. Subsequent RTSP processing passes this unterminated buffer to strdup, causing it to read beyond the allocation until an incidental NUL byte is encountered. An attacker-controlled RTSP Session header can cause adjacent heap data to be incorporated into VLC's stored session identifier and returned to the malicious server in later RTSP requests. The RTSP module is optional at build time but enabled in official VideoLAN builds.

A medium-severity VLC Media Player vulnerability that permits reading sensitive heap-memory data through processing of specially crafted RTSP responses.
A medium-severity out-of-bounds-read and improper-null-termination flaw in VLC Media Player's optional RTSP access module. An attacker-controlled RTSP Session header of at least 4096 bytes can leave a buffer unterminated; subsequent processing reads adjacent heap memory, which VLC may return to the malicious RTSP server.
A medium-severity out-of-bounds-read and improper-null-termination flaw in VLC Media Player's optional RTSP access module. An RTSP server can supply an oversized Session header that is copied without a terminating null byte; later use of strdup can read beyond the buffer and disclose adjacent client heap memory back to the hostile server.
A network-accessible Ubuntu Linux vulnerability affecting Ubuntu LTS releases 16.04 through 26.04, including the Ubuntu VLC package. It requires user interaction and may expose high-impact confidentiality consequences under CVSS v3/v4.
