CVE-2026-73620 is an unsafe git option forwarding vulnerability in GitPython affecting versions before 3.1.57. The flaw is present in the IndexFile.checkout() and TagReference.create() code paths, where keyword arguments are forwarded to underlying git operations without adequately blocking unsafe options. This allows an attacker who can influence kwargs supplied to these methods to inject git options that were not intended to be exposed by the API. Documented abuse includes use of the git --prefix option to cause repository content to be written to attacker-chosen filesystem locations, resulting in arbitrary file overwrite, and use of the -F option to cause arbitrary file contents to be read and returned in-band. The issue has been associated with CWE-22.
