CVE-2026-73622 is an information disclosure vulnerability in GitPython affecting versions before 3.1.55. The flaw is caused by failure to disable environment variable expansion when handling repository URLs supplied to the Remote.create() and Submodule.add() APIs. An attacker can provide a crafted remote or submodule URL containing environment variable references, which are expanded and written into Git configuration data such as repository remote configuration or submodule metadata. During subsequent Git operations such as fetch or pull, the expanded values may be transmitted to an attacker-controlled host. The issue primarily exposes secrets present in the process environment and can affect automation and CI/CD workflows that use GitPython with untrusted repository or submodule input.
