CVE-2026-76266 is a local privilege-escalation vulnerability affecting Splunk Enterprise on Linux in release branches before 10.4.3, 10.2.7, 10.0.10, and 9.4.15. The Linux package maintainer script trusts existing installation content while performing upgrade operations with root privileges. A local user able to execute commands as the Splunk Enterprise service account can modify that content so that a subsequent affected package upgrade executes attacker-controlled operating-system commands as root. Exploitation depends on an upgrade occurring after the modification and does not provide immediate, at-will elevation.
