CVE-2026-76885 is a heap out-of-bounds read in Wireshark's Tektronix K12 capture-file parser. While reading a record, the parser accounts for skipped 16-byte blobs in its returned length even though those bytes are not copied to the record buffer. The inflated length is propagated by the K12 read paths to packet-data processing, which trusts it and performs a buffer append that reads beyond the allocated heap buffer. The issue affects Wireshark 4.6.0 through 4.6.7 and 4.4.0 through 4.4.18; it was also reproduced in a 4.7.2 development build.
