CVE-2026-77955 is a timing flaw in NLnet Labs Unbound affecting versions 1.13.2 through 1.26.0. For configured authoritative zones with zonemd-check enabled that are beneath, but are not themselves, a trust anchor, Unbound can serve zone contents before ZONEMD integrity verification completes. The verification is delayed while asynchronous DS and DNSKEY resolution occurs, creating a time-of-check/time-of-use window. If zone-file persistence is enabled, data received before a failed verification can be written to disk; it is then reloaded following a restart and remains available until verification subsequently completes and fails.
