CVE-2026-78043 is a path traversal vulnerability in the OpenVPN Windows Interactive Service in versions 2.7_alpha1 through 2.7.6. The service’s trusted-configuration-directory validation did not reject forward slashes, despite Windows file APIs treating them as path separators. A local authenticated user could use traversal syntax containing forward slashes to evade the configuration-path restriction and make the service launch an OpenVPN configuration file outside the administrator-approved directory.
