CVE-2026-78227 is a use-after-free in NLnet Labs Unbound DNS-over-QUIC handling in versions 1.22.0 through 1.26.0. In builds compiled with libngtcp2 support, a DoQ stream's response output buffer can be freed after receipt of a QUIC RESET_STREAM while ngtcp2 retransmission state retains a shallow reference to that buffer. A subsequent probe-timeout retransmission re-encodes the STREAM frame and reads from the freed buffer.
