CVE-2026-79772 affects Nokogiri versions before 1.19.1 when using the CRuby extension. The canonicalize method does not check the return value of libxml2's xmlC14NExecute operation. If XML canonicalization fails, the method returns an empty string instead of raising an exception. Downstream SAML and XML-signature implementations that treat this result as acceptable can validate an invalid canonicalized document and bypass signature verification.

A network-reachable, low-complexity vulnerability affecting Debian Linux 11, 12, and 13, with the ruby-nokogiri package identified in the CPE data. The provided CVSS v3.0 vector indicates no privileges or user interaction are required and an integrity impact limited to low; confidentiality and availability impact are listed as none.
A medium-severity flaw in Nokogiri's CRuby extension that mishandles XML canonicalization failures by returning an empty string. Downstream consumers may accept invalid or incomplete canonicalized XML; this has been demonstrated to enable SAML signature-validation bypasses in downstream libraries. JRuby is not affected.
