CVE-2026-8398 is a software supply-chain compromise affecting DAEMON Tools Lite for Windows versions 12.5.0.2421 through 12.5.0.2434. Attackers obtained unauthorized access to AVB Disc Soft’s build or distribution infrastructure and modified three core binaries within the official installer package before distribution through the vendor’s legitimate website. The trojanized binaries were signed with the vendor’s legitimate code-signing certificate, causing the installers to appear authentic and pass normal trust checks. The malicious code executed automatically at system startup from within the modified binaries and initiated host profiling and staged follow-on payload delivery. This is classified as embedded malicious code rather than a memory-safety or input-validation flaw, because the vulnerable condition was the compromise of the trusted software distribution chain itself.
