CVE-2026-86412 is a cookie-handling vulnerability in curl versions earlier than 8.23.0. A remote HTTP server can supply a cookie that curl accepts and persists in a Netscape-format cookie jar but cannot subsequently reload. When a later invocation uses the same file for both --cookie and --cookie-jar, cookie loading fails before curl connects to the destination. Cleanup then overwrites the jar with an empty file, deleting stored cookies, including those belonging to unrelated domains. The vulnerability is classified as low severity.

Referenced by an Ubuntu local security check covering curl packages. No individual technical description or vulnerability-specific exploit availability is provided.
A low-severity curl cookie-handling vulnerability allows a remote HTTP server to supply a cookie that renders a saved Netscape cookie jar unreadable. A subsequent invocation using the same file for cookie input and output fails before connecting and overwrites the jar with an empty file, deleting cookies belonging to unrelated domains. The reference assigns CVSS v3.1 3.7, with low integrity impact and high attack complexity. Amazon Linux 2023 and Amazon Linux 2027 Preview list fixes as pending; Amazon Linux 2 Core is not affected.
