CVE-2026-86415 is an authentication-context confusion vulnerability in libcurl's connection cache matching logic when using the Schannel TLS backend. The matching function does not consider the automatic client-certificate option when deciding whether an existing connection can be reused. Consequently, a cached connection already authenticated with a client certificate can be assigned to a transfer redirected to a different origin, causing that transfer to use an unintended client-certificate identity. The vulnerability affects curl versions before 8.23.0 and is classified as low severity by the curl project.

A connection-reuse flaw in libcurl's Schannel handling can allow a redirected transfer to reuse an authenticated connection even after automatic client certificate selection was explicitly disabled for that transfer. The advisory rates it Low, with CVSS 3.1 score 3.7, indicating low confidentiality impact and high attack complexity. The listed curl packages for Amazon Linux 2, Amazon Linux 2023, and Amazon Linux 2027 Preview are marked not affected.
A client-certificate and connection-reuse flaw allows a connection to be reused under the wrong client-certificate identity.
Low-severity vulnerability in curl fixed in version 8.23.0. The article provides no technical details.
A vulnerability affecting the Curl package on FreeBSD, listed in the advisory's Nessus plugin. Its specific mechanism and impact are not described. Updating affected packages is the stated remediation.
