CVE-2026-8715 affects HashiCorp Vault Secrets Operator versions 1.3.0 through 1.4.1. The AppRole authentication configuration permits tenant-controlled VaultAuth or VaultAuthGlobal resources to supply an unrestricted secretIDPath. Although validation rejects traversal sequences and non-regular files, it does not constrain reads to an approved directory. A tenant can therefore cause the cluster-wide operator to read files accessible to its pod, including its projected Kubernetes ServiceAccount credential. By pairing this with a tenant-controlled VaultConnection address, the tenant can induce the operator to submit the file contents as an AppRole secret identifier to an attacker-controlled endpoint.
