CVE-2026-87862 is an HSTS policy-handling vulnerability in curl and libcurl. When an HSTS cache imports a parent-domain entry with includeSubDomains before a child-domain entry whose expiration is later, the child entry is incorrectly discarded. After the parent policy expires, the child domain loses HTTPS enforcement even though its own policy should remain valid. Subsequent HTTP requests to that child domain may therefore proceed without being upgraded to HTTPS. The vulnerability is fixed in curl 8.23.0.

Referenced by an Ubuntu local security check covering curl packages. No individual technical description or vulnerability-specific exploit availability is provided.
Incorrect handling of imported parent and child HSTS entries could cause curl to use unencrypted HTTP connections. The advisory identifies Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and 24.04 LTS as affected.
A curl HSTS policy-handling flaw silently discards a longer-lived child policy when a parent includeSubDomains policy is imported first. After the parent expires, curl may send unencrypted HTTP requests instead of upgrading to HTTPS, potentially exposing confidential information. The advisory rates severity Low, with CVSS v3.1 score 3.7 and high attack complexity. Fixes are pending for the listed Amazon Linux packages.
A critical vulnerability affecting curl, identified by Tenable Cloud Security plugin 476147. The listed CVSS v3 score is 9.1, indicating network-accessible exploitation without authentication or user interaction, with high confidentiality and integrity impacts and no availability impact. The content does not describe the underlying flaw. Updating curl and related packages to version 1:8.23.0-1+e1 or later addresses the vulnerability.
