CVE-2026-87863 is an HSTS persistence vulnerability in curl and libcurl. An authenticated HTTPS origin can supply an HSTS max-age value that the parser accepts but that exceeds the bounds supported by calendar-time serialization. When saving the HSTS cache, curl truncates the existing cache before completing a temporary replacement. If serialization fails, the temporary file is deleted, leaving the persisted cache empty or partially written. This can erase previously stored HTTPS-enforcement entries. The vulnerability is fixed in curl 8.23.0.

Referenced by an Ubuntu local security check covering curl packages. No individual technical description or vulnerability-specific exploit availability is provided.
Improper handling of HSTS max-age values exceeding calendar time structure bounds could cause denial of service or data loss. The advisory identifies only Ubuntu 24.04 LTS as affected.
A curl HSTS cache integrity vulnerability on 64-bit systems. Extreme max-age values can produce expiry times within integer limits but beyond calendar structure bounds, causing serialization to fail after the existing cache has been truncated. The result is an empty or partial HSTS cache, while curl silently ignores the cleanup save error and exits successfully. The advisory rates the vulnerability Medium with a CVSS v3.1 score of 5.3 and lists fixes as pending for the affected Amazon Linux packages.
A critical vulnerability affecting curl packages, reported by Tenable Cloud Security plugin 476132. The CVSS v3 base score is 9.1, indicating network exploitation without privileges or user interaction and high confidentiality and integrity impacts. The content does not describe the underlying flaw. Published October 14, 2026, with a patch published October 15, 2026.
